Depeche Mode: SPIRITS in the Forest

Depeche Mode Spirits In The Forest

‘In today’s world of turmoil and divisiveness’, keyboardist, guitarist, and co-lead vocalist of Depeche Mode, Martin Gore says, ‘music really can be a force for good and can bring people together. The upcoming feature-length documentary and concert film of the English electronic band, ‘Depeche Mode: SPIRITS in the Forest’, is all set to prove this. Two official trailers of the documentary have already been shared online as the fans eagerly await the worldwide theatrical release of the film on November 21 for a single night only.

Directed by the longtime collaborator of the band Anton Corbijn, SPIRITS presents some extraordinary footage of the band’s final concert at the legendary Waldbühne (aka Forest Stage) in Germany during their 2017-18 Global Spirit Tour. But, as the trailers say, ‘This is more than just the story of that show’; the film seeks to transform into something more than a simple concert documentary. The trailer, as the film itself, aesthetically and imaginatively juxtaposes stories of six diehard Depeche Mode fans who attended the concert from all over the world with the live performance footage of the show. Shot in their hometowns, these fans narrate to the camera candid and deeply emotional stories about how music affects the personal lives of people from diverse backgrounds as well as empowers them.

When announcing the film, Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan has said, ‘It’s amazing to see the very real ways that music has impacted the lives of our fans’. The SPIRITS, which is presented by Trafalgar Releasing, Sony Music Entertainment, and BBH Entertainment, promises to be a truthful record of the band’s fan connection as well as unique and intimate stories of real people across the world. The trailers of the film provide a glimpse of that honest world where music has an active role to play in the personal lives of different people and connects them with the greater humanity.
