Dylan Cox Poetic Indie Rocker

Dylan Cox is undoubtedly an artist you will hear of for years to come. Originally from Los Angeles and now based in Paris, France, Cox's music merges emotive lyrics (fuelled by his past pains) and heavyweight melodies into profoundly personal and compelling poetic indie-folk tunes.

"The Comet" is the latest single from Cox's debut 2021 EP, A Place To Meet. A compelling song, which is a proclamation of love, loss and life, and serves as a poignantly autobiographical introspection on Dylan's life, who was adopted by a different family in his teens.

The song was written in one of the byzantine-art-deco tiled bathrooms that adjoin the palatial rooms of La Villa Magnan, in the southwest of France, and that enormity of this is felt in the sound and space of "The Comet". Its immense vocal performance and the spacious string-like melodies of the post-choruses really gives the song a majestic feel.

The track has striking influences of Ben Howard and Bon Iver, in the sense that it exhales the emotive aspects of life, in all of its complexities personal to Dylan Cox, as he lets us into his world and builds a deep rapport with the audience. The echoing, haunting melancholic sound of "The Comet" and Dylan Cox will immerse you, as its sentiment plays on any listener's heartstrings. If you give yourself to this song, you get back so much in return.

"The Comet" is accompanied by a music video co-directed by Dylan and photographer Melvin Israel and is further evidence of his powerful artistic imagery. For the video, Dylan created a 40-meter long piece of fabric and dyed it yellow to imitate a scarf of his that was a gift from a close friend. In the fantastical landscape of the stunning Spanish coastline, dancers Hortense de Gromard and Pierre Lamour hold each end of the fabric, slowly tracing a path until they finally meet. The video acts as a potent visual supplement to an exceptional song.

"The Comet" and A Place To Meet are just emerging indicators of the immense talent, and emotional depth of Dylan Cox, which I am sure will be refined and developed with time. And for such a formative artist, exhumes an awe-inspiring sense of maturity and assurance. Dylan Cox is certainly an artist to watch out for.
